"The creative arts are the measure and reflection of our civilization. They offer many children an opportunity to see life with a larger perspective...The moral values we treasure are reflected in the beauty and truth that is emotionally transmitted through the arts. The arts say something about us to future generations." –Ann P. Kahn
The Arts encompass a variety of creative expressions. Dance, playing a musical instrument, painting and mastering a sport can be equally inventive and captivating.
I have such respect for the discipline each of these endeavors requires. I appreciate the dedication it takes to be able to do what they do, and how someone can accomplish difficult things and make it look easy. I too spend countless hours at my own craft of creating professional portraits and one of the best compliments I get is that I always make t look easy.
I’m typically more demanding of the creatives when I work with them. They're used to hard work and discipline. Take the dancer for example, who can do a jump fifty times in a row if necessary to get the perfect shot. Are they tired at the end of a shoot? You bet, but they know that it's part of being excellent!
During a session, I’m conscious of encouraging any artist and relating the power of a “can do" attitude. Many have aspirations of going professional even though it seems like a long shot. I'm always on their side because you only get one shot at life... and you have to try. Regret is killer to the human spirit.
"Everyone who has seen my portraits just can’t compliment them enough. Al’s work is truly remarkable." K. Morris Barrington, IL
