A Love Story

Meet Heidi and Bryer. When they arived for their photo shoot in early summer, the deep bond between them was immediately discernible. All of us who have ever loved a dog like family, understands this connection. Heidi adopted Bryer, a Collie Shepherd mix shelter dog, when he was two. I've not seen many dogs like him... quite regal and handsome... with a gentle demeanor that was calming and attentive.

Heidi spoke of times when Bryer was younger and served as a "comfort dog" visiting patients in hospitals and  rehab facilities. He had a way of intuitively sensing who needed him most, bringing joy to thousands of people of every age, by how he responded to them. Heidi has witnessed Breyer singling out special needs children in a crowd on his own and  letting them know they mattered.

Heidi reflected on what her loyal companion has meant to her through the years. "For me, he has been a constant companion, sticking by me through many twists and turns in life. I have had a number of new chapters in my life, but even during the rough dark ones, I've been able to count on his steady, calming presence."

Sadly, Bryer has been diagnosed with Lyme disease recently. While physically he can no longer do many things he used to, his heart has not changed in the least.

When I came to Al to commemorate my beloved friend in a portrait, I would never have imagined it was possible to capture not only his beauty but also his heart.  Al was so patient with my old guy and really brought out his glory.  He took the time to listen to our story and was able to pull that into the pictures.  I cried tears of joy as we previewed the portraits.  I feel a sense of relief that I will have these to cherish for the rest of my life!!!

About Heidi Lewis: Lover of Life and Wellness Coach

Heidi Lewis

Heidi is a remarkable woman with a story that would make most people weep. When the anzieties and traumas of her past finally caught up with her a few years ago, her life came crashing down in a big way. It became unbearable enough that she was barely able to eat or sleep for three months and feared for her very life.

"Let me tell you, when your health is stripped away from you and suddenly, for the first time in your life you can’t find joy in even the smallest of things, there is NOTHING you won’t do to get that back... NOTHING! So I began reaching out for help in every direction I could. It didn’t take long to realize that a life of taking medications to control my new found constant companion….anxiety was not the path I wanted to go down! The answers were not simple, but did involve lifestyle changes, dealing with past hurts, eating a healthy diet, the discovery of the importance of the Mind/Body connection and getting balance in my life."

She's a success story for sure. But for every success story, there are scores of hurting people still struggling to find a way out.

"In almost all cases we didn't get sick in an instant so how can we  expect to achieve optimum health in an instant?  In my opinion,  nothing is more worthy of our time and effort than good health.  Our bodies want to be well and when we reach out to find help we are sending it a message that we care... and it WILL respond. You just have to be willing to listen!"

Heidi graduated with honors from the Institute For Integrative Nutrition in 2016 and is trained in nutrition and life coaching. As a result of her training, she's become a proficient cook and has developed many recipes with a focus on sustainable, organic and nutritious meals designed for those who desire to develop a lifestyle built around healthy eating and exercise.
